"Jewish community in Turkey prepares for Passover

A Jewish festival commemorating their ancestors’ escape from enslavement in Egypt will begin Tuesday and last for eight days.

Pesach, or Passover, is a major festival starting on the 15th day of the Jewish month of Nissan. The name “Pesach” comes from the Hebrew root “Peh-Samech-Chet,” meaning to pass through, to pass over, to exempt or to spare. The story of the Israelites’ escape is told in chapters one through 15 of the book of Exodus."
