"Turkey's EU talks face high environmental hurdle

Dilovası, a district of Kocaeli one hour from Istanbul, has gray skies year round due to the smog and pollution coming from unregulated factories in the area. But that picture might change soon as Turkey is expected to put its environmental laws in line with EU standards.

The Turkish government has started negotiations with the European Union regarding the environment chapter for accession and the process will require many changes to existing practices and policies in Turkey."
