Time Turk reported that the tunnel, built as part of the Melen Project, which aims to provide a long term solution to the water supply problems of Istanbul and cities around the Gulf of İzmit was constructed between Sarıyer on the European side and Beykoz on the Anatolian side, 135 meters below the surface of the Bosporus."
