Istanbul: My kind of town

"Istanbul: my kind of town
Barbara Nadel once went out to get a newspaper and ended up at a Syrian Orthodox wedding in Istanbul.

WHY ISTANBUL?
My Inspector Ikmen crime series is set in the city, and I return regularly. Istanbul not only offers the opulent footprints of the Ottomans, but also the remains of the Byzantine and the Roman empires. Modern Istanbul is a mistress of reinvention, and new restaurants, shops, clubs and galleries open all the time. Things happen here. I once went out to get a newspaper on a Sunday morning and ended up at a Syrian Orthodox wedding. Seemingly mundane jaunts are never ever boring and there is always some barely remembered historical site or outré person just around the corner. "
