NICOSIA yesterday tried to stay poker-faced after nationalists in the north swept the ‘legislative elections’ over the weekend, a result regarded as casting a long shadow on the fate of reunification talks.

Dervis Eroglu’s rightwing National Unity Party (UBP) garnered 44 per cent of the vote, holding the majority in the 50-seat ‘parliament’ with 26 deputies and paving the way for a one-party ‘government’."
