ISTANBUL -- A court here on Wednesday formally indicted 56 suspects, including two retired four-star generals, on charges of plotting to topple Turkey's Islamic-rooted government.

Made public by Istanbul's 13th Criminal Court, the 1,909-page indictment is the second to emerge from an 18-month investigation into a secularist-nationalist group accused of fomenting civil unrest against the ruling AK Party. Earlier this month, prosecutors submitted the indictment, which required approval from the court. That approval came Wednesday, paving the way for the case to move forward and the indictment to be made public. "
