"European Union must implement the free movement of researchers to boost Europe’s competitiveness in times of economic crisis

The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe and the Turkish Research and Business Organisations co-hosted a Turkish Research and Development seminar today in the European Parliament. High level participants included Vittorio Prodi (Partito Democratico, Italy), Member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, Janez Potocnik, EU Research Commissioner and Mehmet Aydın, Turkish State Minister in charge of research Vittorio Prodi, who chaired the event said: “I’m convinced that Turkey’s participation to EU R&D programmes and exchanges in the scientific field must be intensified. Research is only one of the many aspects for a partnership between Turkey and EU: Turkey’s geo-strategic position gives that country a vital role in the stability of the whole region. The R&D day is just a small step on the road of Turkey’s full membership in the EU. Europe needs Turkey, Turkey needs Europe and the world peace needs them both working together'"
