EU Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs on November 6 will discuss problems concerning the Nabucco gas pipeline with top Turkish government officials so that an intergovernmental transit agreement can be signed in January 2009. “We’re just going to have discussions at the higher level, to identify the problems and to move forward in order to have an agreement on the transit intergovernmental agreement in January 2009 at the latest, so that’s the purpose of the trip,” Ferran Tarradellas Espuny, spokesman for Piebalgs, told New Europe, hours before the commissioner was set to depart for Ankara on November 5, adding that the European Commission is acting as the facilitator for the agreement."
