Sir, Colin Powell recently turned the question of whether Barack Obama is a Muslim on its head: of course he's not, but the real question is, so what if he were? The US was built by people fleeing religious persecution, specifically in Europe. Europe, in the meantime, has continued to struggle with religious diversity – also, these days, whether and how to incorporate Muslims. A significant question has been whether Turkey, a secular state with an overwhelming Muslim majority, should become a part of the European Union."
