Kirkuk issue takes the upper hand in Iraq’s politics while Turkey has showed interest in the issue after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki received a phone call from Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who expressed his concern over Kurds demand to join Kirkuk to Kurdistan. Erdogan wished Iraqi leaders would agree on a provincial law that satisfies all parties noting that the submitted proposal stipulating to give 32% for each main component and 4% for Chaldeans and Assyrians in Kirkuk is a good proposal supported by Turkey. A presidential statement explained that President Talabani explained to Erdogan that developments do not implicate that Kirkuk has joined the region but is seen as a warning of joining the city into the region if no agreement is reached on the provincial election law between Kurdistan Alliance and other parties in the central parliament."
