German Consul General Matthias von Kummer: Germany and Turkey are bound by exceptionally complex and close ties of friendship stretching back over centuries Istanbul will be one of the European Culture Capitals in 2010 as will Essen in the Ruhr district of Germany and Pecs in Hungary. Von Kummer draws one’s attention to the fact that many Turks live in the Ruhr area while many Germans visit Turkey every year. The programs that are going to be put on will be extensive and are bound to attract even more people that year"
