NEXT WEEK’S UN-hosted dinner between the two community leaders remains in the balance following a backlash by the Turkish Cypriot leadership over the Cyprus-UK memorandum signed last week.

The recent progress in relations between the two sides has taken a step back after last Thursday’s meeting between President Demetris Christrofias and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat was not happy with a number of clauses in the memo, including reference to the basis of a future settlement: a bizonal, bicommunal federation with political equality, reflecting single sovereignty, citizenship and international status."
