Nomads longing for home, the characters in Fatih Akin's films can be defined by the frequency and haste with which they pack a suitcase. Akin was born in Germany of Turkish immigrant parents, and like all children of immigrants, he's drawn to the drift and tension inherent in any society, any political system, every outsider."
