Turkish Guest WorkersIn 1961, Germany had to outsource for labor for the construction of the Berlin Wall, and the Federal Republic recruited Turks for the foreign worker program. Originally, this arrangement was temporary, so no efforts were made between the German and Turkish cultures for integration. But by the time the construction of the Berlin Wall was finished, most Turks had not made enough money to move back to Turkey and start over. Today, 2.4 million Turks constitute Germany’s largest minority group."
