ANKARA, Turkey: A Turkish military court on Saturday released eight Turkish soldiers pending trial on charges of disobeying orders, reportedly for surrendering to Kurdish rebels who held them hostage for two weeks.

The soldiers were captured during a clash with the Kurdish rebels near the Turkish-Iraqi border in October and were held for two weeks before they were released in a mountainous area in northern Iraq. The fighting left 12 other soldiers dead."
