"İstanbul’s taxpayers get little bang for their buck
İstanbul, home to about a sixth of Turkey's total population, accounts for almost two-fifths of the government's budget, yet receives just under a 10th of that back in government spending.


In 2007 İstanbul residents paid YTL 5,607 on average in taxes and other fees, but per capita government spending in the nations' most populous city was only YTL 633.7."
