At a time when public opinion in Turkey was frustrated with US policies in Iraq vis-à-vis the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) as well as unhappy about northern Iraq’s Kurdish leaders’ supportive attitude towards the terrorist organization, the tide started to change in less than two weeks. Former Ambassador Morton Abramowitz First, European Union ministers clearly condemned actions of the terrorist group, calling on Iraq to take measures to stop it. Then following a meeting between the leaders of Turkey and Iraq earlier this month, Iraq’s leaders started saying they were willing to support Turkey in its war on terror.
