"Böhmer: We don't want Turkish brides to be sad

After a three-day visit to Turkey, German State Minister for Integration Maria Böhmer still stands firmly behind her country's new immigration law, insisting at a press conference held in Istanbul yesterday that the law 'will make the integration of Turkish immigrants in Germany easier.' Referring to the law's main point of contention, an amendment that requires a foreigner who wants to bring his or her spouse to Germany to prove the partner can earn a living and has some knowledge of German, she said: 'I believe that [this obligation] is not an obstacle for immigrants. Actually, it is a great opportunity.'"
