Ankara - Turkish paramilitary police have arrested 81 would-be immigrants in eastern Turkey who had crossed illegally into Turkey and were then abandoned by the driver of a lorry that had brought them into the country, the Anadolu news agency reported on Saturday. Gendarmes, military police responsible for security in rural areas, had first stopped the lorry at a checkpoint in the Ovapinar district of Van province. The lorry was allowed to drive on but acting on suspicion that the driver's identity card may have been false they later decided to follow-up."
