"Turkey indicates cross-border offensive unlikely before PM visit to Washington

ISTANBUL, Turkey: Turkey will wait until the prime minister visits Washington in early November before deciding on a cross-border offensive into northern Iraq, the country's military chief has said. Turkey's civilian leadership said it was dissatisfied with proposals from U.S.-backed Iraq for dealing with Kurdish rebels sheltering there.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he will travel on Nov. 5 to Washington to meet U.S. President George W. Bush in what is widely seen as the culmination of frantic diplomatic activity aimed at averting a Turkish incursion in northern Iraq."
