TURKEY'S new pro-Islamic parliament was sworn in on Saturday two weeks after its thumping win in national elections and ahead of a defining showdown with secularists over a vote for a new president.

The Justice and Development Party of ruling Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan took 340 seats in the 550-member legislature, forming the second consecutive majority Government in the past 20 years."
