If there is peace on Cyprus today it is thanks to the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces, Turkish Chief of Staff General Yasar Buyukanit told reporters during a reception in Ankara on Monday.
Buyukanit speaking to reporters at the reception to mark the Turkish Cypriot Armed Forces Day said since 1974 the people of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have been immune to all kinds of attacks and have started to live in peace. 'We as the Turkish Armed Forces, out duty is to provide security to the TRNC. If there is peace on the island today it is thanks to the Turkish Armed Forces. Those who try to give assurances to the Turkish Cypriot people in various places should keep this in mind.'"
