Turkish hopes of joining the European Union (EU) have received a boost after the incoming president of the union stated that he will treat the country fairly.
Portuguese prime minister Jose Socrates said that one of his aims is to continue discussions with the country in regards to it becoming a member of the EU, reports the Associated Press."
