Work has started to bring the eight-storey Çukurören Underground City, the largest underground city in the Central Anatolia region, into tourism. The underground city located within the borders of Gülpınar has a long history and was the largest underground city in the Cappadocia region, Aksaray's Gülpınar district Mayor Nizamettin Uğur told the Anatolia news agency. Research has revealed that Çukurören was an eight-storey underground city. It is said that ground waters pass through the third and fourth storey of the underground city. But we cannot see it because we haven't come to that point yet. We reached the second storey of the city. There is a church, a winepress, food stores, living spaces and wells on this level," said Uğur. "Work has been carried out to reach lower levels."
