As it builds up its military presence on its southeastern border with Iraq, Turkey is debating whether to launch an incursion into northern Iraq to root out members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and related Kurdish militant groups based there.


Relations with the US, which is warning Turkey against an incursion; Ankara's secular versus moderate religious leadership struggle; and diverse views of the possible domestic consequences of a military incursion all figure in the debate."
