Some historical churches in Turkey have been turned into areas where pigeon droppings pile up whilst others have been turned into cisterns used to water fields.
For the first time Turkey has been granted an international award in the field of cultural heritage conservation. Sarıca Church of Cappadocia on UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage has been restored by Vasco Tourism and was opened to tourists in 2002. The church has won the European Union Cultural Heritage Great Award competing with 158 other projects across 32 countries. "
