Istanbul, 5 June (AKI) - Turkey's ruling Justice and Development party (AKP) has dropped almost half of its current parliamentarians from its list of candidates for the 22 July election - part of a trend by groups across the politcal spectrum to present fresh faces in an attempt to woo voters. The Islamic-rooted AKP has named 155 new candidates for the 550 odd seats it is contesting, including some surprise choices such as a prominent social-democrat, Ertugrul Gunay, whose name appears second after the party's top candidate in Istanbul, prime minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
