Deniz Yazar is like a lot of other eight-year-olds in Weston. He enjoys swimming and cartoons, and his favorite character is Sponge Bob Square Pants.

As a second grader in Ms. Nakas’ class at Hurlbutt Elementary School, Deniz’s favorite subjects are reading, math and art. He also takes acting classes.

However, Deniz also has a passion for music. And he recently turned that passion into a performance, by playing piano in a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
In that same hallowed concert hall, piano virtuosos George Gershwin, Vladimir Horowitz, Van Cliburn, and Artur Rubinstein also once performed.

Deniz was one of 106 students from the Suzuki Music School of Westport who participated in a special concert this week, hosted by the group Perform America.
