"European Commission stands firm on Turkey promise
The European Commission, regarded as the guardian of EU treaties, once more made it clear yesterday that it strongly backs accession talks with Turkey and deems it unnecessary to unleash a debate on Turkey’s place in Europe and on European borders.

Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said they had a solid mandate to continue talks and were determined to do so. He added that the continuation of talks was in the best interest of both Turkey and the EU."
