Ankara Presses for Customs Union of Muslim Countries

"Ankara Presses for Customs Union of Muslim Countries

Turkey calls on the Muslim countries who are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to take action on putting into effect a preferential trade system.

“The preferential tariffs plan has not yet been signed or ratified. I invite member states to immediately sign it and take an active part in negotiations over the plan,” Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, the Turkish secretary-general of the 57-nation OIC said in his message at the 23rd meeting of the Follow-Up Committee of COMCEC, hosted by Turkey. He also proposed an OIC trade and finance institution, saying this would help plans to bring to life an effective preferential trade system."
