"Marini: Turkey's EU bid strategically important
Turkey's eventual full entry to the European Union has a strategic importance, according to Franco Marini, president of the Italian Senate.

'Relations with Turkey should be carried forward. Certainly, definite conditions may be put forward; however, Turkey's entry into the EU has strategic importance as regards relations with the rest of the Muslim world,' Marini was quoted over the weekend as telling reporters on board a plane on his way to Algeria for an official visit."
