"...Wilmington resident Jane Strobach won a gold medal in the photojournalism category with her 'A Child in the Lead,' a picture she snapped while vacationing in Turkey.
In the digital image, a child dressed in red and pink is led away by a military officer, while soldiers are lined up behind her.
It was the little girl that caught her eye, Strobach said.
'It was the one spot of pink in all the other subdued colors in the background,' she said. 'I liked the contrast between the soldiers and the innocence of the child.'
The soldiers in the background are recruits, visiting a monument dedicated to Ataturk, who founded the Republic of Turkey after World War I."
