"Nation marks 72nd anniversary of women's suffrage

Women's fight for their rights and freedoms will be far more effective than any measures provided by the law, said President Ahmet Necdet Sezer yesterday.
In a message marking the 72nd anniversary of Turkish women being granted the right to vote and be elected to Parliament, the president said that through Ataturk's principles and reforms, radical revisions were realized aimed at equality in every field of social life and the transition to a democratic society was accelerated by implementing the principle of secularism."
