Everyone is happy and relieved. Comparing the atmosphere of the day before Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Turkey and the day after he left, there is much to be happy and content about. The Turkish government and the people proved their maturity and ability to be respectful and hospitable to even those who are critical of them. After some vacillation, the Turkish government grasped one of the fundamental reasons of the pope’s visit. The Turks gave him this opportunity, for their own benefit as well as for that of world peace."
