"Turkish police conducting security checks for pope's visit detain dozens

ISTANBUL, Turkey: Turkish police conducting security checks near areas visited by Pope Benedict XVI on Thursday detained dozens of people, most of them illegal immigrants, news reports and officials said.

Five people were detained for acting "suspiciously" near the building of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate where Benedict joined Patriarch Bartholomew I to mark the feast day of St. Andrew on Thursday morning, a police official said."
