In 1986, Holland was a country which granted immigrants more rights than any other country in the world. The rights were not only economic but also political. Immigrants, for centuries, have had a wide pallet of political participation rights in the social life of Holland. These include first of all the right to participate in local elections. In the past few years, there have been drastic restrictions on these immigrant rights. The murder of van Gogh by a ethnic Moroccan man in The Hague has affected the liberalism that symbolized Dutch politics against multiculturalism. "
