"Turks protest at French genocide law

Thousands of Turks took to the streets of Istanbul over the weekend to protest against a proposed French law that would make denying the Armenian genocide a crime.

Turkey is threatening economic sanctions against France, where the Armenian population is more than 500,000, if the law is passed.

“What would you do if the Turkish prime minister came to France and denied that the genocide had taken place? Arrest him?” Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

Ankara is also said to be preparing a retaliation in the form of a law condemning the French ‘genocide’ in Algeria during the colonial era. "
