The holy month of Ramadan, in which Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset for 30 days, started on Sunday after the Religious Affairs Directorate announced that the moon was sighted.

Turkish mosques performed the first Teravih prayers on Saturday, as Ali Bardakoglu, the head of the Turkey's top religious affairs authority, said in a statement on Thursday."
