Turkish cherry exports to EU increase 54%

"Turkish cherry exports to EU increase 54%

Tholen - Turkey, which is the major supplier of cherries to the EU, expects to export a total of 50K MT of cherries to Europe during this campaign until August 2006. This is a significant increase of 54% compared to 2005 when 32.352 MT was exported. The Spanish exports are on a similar level as last year, with 19.306 MT. According to the Spanish trade association of produce growers and exporters, Fepex, these figures indicate an increasing opening of the European market to third countries and the directly related deterioration of market conditions in Europe for Spanish and European producers."
