BILL Boyaci's bid to become a millionaire began at nine, with a job as a newspaper and chewing gum salesman on the side of a road in eastern Melbourne.

When his father became ill, his Turkish immigrant family moved from city to country and back again in search of a cure. Boyaci worked variously as a tomato picker, panel beater and carpenter."
