FROM the outside, the only hint to the exotic interior of the green canvas tent is a decorative, gold-coloured fringed band just below the roof.

Push aside the canvas though and you enter a sumptuous Middle Eastern palace, the walls covered in elaborately embroidered flowers and stripes in rich reds, greens, yellows and blues, while between the decorative patterns are latticework 'windows' made from pleated silks and gold and metal threads.

It's hard to believe this was once part of a mobile military camp. The last person to call this tent home was a senior Turkish army officer serving in the 18th century, when imperial forces battled to build and maintain the mighty Ottoman Empire."
