During Turkey’s process of accession to the European Union, one of the main issues of concern will undoubtedly be agriculture. It stands as a huge problem in economic, social and political terms. There is a big gap between Turkey and the EU and other developed countries’ agricultural data. And harmonizing with the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy will require many changes and sacrifices from Turkey. However, CAP harmonization approached from solely a conventional agricultural perspective based on efficiency poses a serious risk to the country’s future. Nevertheless, the situation is not so bad as to necessitate such a risky transformation, since Turkey has considerable potential for ecological, or organic, agriculture."
