"Films screened for Cyprus
TWO films about Cyprus were screened at Wood Green Library on Thursday night in a reconciliatory bid to show both sides of the island’s story.
Screened to a mixed audience of Turkish and Greek Cypriots, the two films aimed to expose the crimes committed against Cypriot civilians from both communities during the insurgencies of the 1970s.
The first film, ‘Attila 1974: A Testimony on Film’, directed by Michael Cacoyannis, explored the Turkish intervention of 1974 and the proceeding Greek Cypriot refugee crisis. ‘Voices of Blood 2: Searching for Selden’, directed by Tony Angastiniotis, examined the mass killings of Turkish Cypriots by Greek Cypriot nationalists in the villages of Atlılar (Aloa), Muratağa (Maratha), Sandallar (Sandalari) and Taşkent in August 1974.
