The European Union (EU) failed to agree on a common position for the science and research chapter which will be opened for de facto negotiations between the EU and Turkey on June 12.
Gathering at working group level, EU members failed to reach a consensus due to the demands of France and Greek Cyprus. Member countries will meet again at the same level on Tuesday. France asked for the prolongation of the process, diplomatic sources informed Zaman Daily. The majority of EU Commission and member countries favored the science and research chapter’s ending the same day. Greek Cyprus; however, wants to put “recognition of Cyprus” into the EU joint statement."
