Sveriges Radio International -Swedish-Kurds Arrested in Turkey

"Swedish-Kurds Arrested in Turkey

Two Kurdish activists with dual Turkish-Swedish citizenship risk up to three years in jail over a press statement denouncing a military build-up.

A prosecutor in the mainly Kurdish region of southeastern Turkey has accused the two of spreading propaganda for the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party.

The two are members of a Kurdish cultural association banned last month because its statutes called for the use in its activities of the Kurdish language, which is illegal under Turkish law."
