The sad illness of former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit has been an awakener for us. Our nation is blessed with the presence of wise veteran leaders like Ecevit, former Prime Minister and President Suleyman Demirel and even pro-Islamist former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan.
These people radiate experience, wisdom and understanding that we can't find in the new generation of Turkish leaders. Every word they say is carried to the headlines of the Turkish media, sometimes as a warning and, at times, as constructive advice."
