The speech main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Izmir Deputy Turkan Micogullari gave in Parliament last week showed the cooperation between women regardless of their parties.

'As you know, Turkish women got the right to vote and be elected before women in (countries which later became) the European Union,' said Micogullari. 'But now, 30 percent of deputies in EU member countries are women. In our Parliament, however, there are only 24 women, which means 4.4 percent. All of the deputies in Parliament are my close, hardworking friends.'

At that point, ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party Adana Deputy Ayhan Zeynep Boru addressed Micogullari from her seat, saying, 'You're worth 10 deputies in the EU.' "
