ANKARA, Turkey -- Former Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, a political force for nearly 50 years, remained in a coma on life support for a second day Wednesday following treatment for a stroke, his hospital said.

Ecevit, 81, suffered the stroke May 18 after attending the funeral of a high court judge shot and killed by an alleged Islamist extremist gunman, and underwent surgery."
