ANKARA A prosecutor lost his job on Thursday for 'dishonoring' his office after he accused a general of trying to foment Kurdish unrest in Turkey, an accusation that had sparked tensions between the military and the government.
The move underlined how risky it can be to criticize Turkey's revered armed forces, despite European Union- linked reforms aimed at curbing the generals' influence.
The High Board of Judges and Prosecutors suspended Ferhat Sarikaya, a public prosecutor in the eastern town of Van, under a law that says a judge or prosecutor can be removed from office if he harms the credibility and honor of his profession."
