"Reductionism and exclusive nationalism

The tone of nationalist rhetoric has become so high and extensive that those who agitate in the name of “higher interests of the country” do not realize how damaging their attitude is to their country and countrymen alike. Nationalism based on ethnic exclusiveness in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural country is bound to destabilize the nation rather than homogenize it. Here, “nation” is used as the legal and political unity of all citizens and citizen groups regardless of their race, religion and ethnicity. Today neither Turkish nationalists nor Kurdish nationalists seek a unity out of diversity. They want what is “theirs,” the way they define it. This definition is so narrow that it borders on racism or ethno-centrism. "
